Cate Blanchett, Toku Saké's Creative Director

Double Academy Award-winning actor and producer Cate Blanchett has joined Toku Saké as Creative Director. Blanchett is playing a pivotal role, overseeing creative strategy and direction, including new product development and innovation.

"The thoughtful, reflective craftsmanship that is part and parcel of everyday life in Japan has long been a touchstone for me. Saké reflects these traditional values with its intense focus on method, purity and authenticity. Sitting around a table with friends and family, celebrating and breaking bread together is one of life’s great pleasures, and over the years I have had countless, joy-filled nights sharing saké in this way. I’m excited to help bring the exquisite liquid which is Toku Saké into the world market."

Our story

In the north of Japan lies Hokkaido, its coldest prefecture. And there lies its coldest city, Asahikawa.

Here, winter comes hard. The mercury regularly falls to -20°C. But from this harshness, an exceptional saké with a delicate, silky character is wrought.

Every winter, we ferment highly polished Yamada Nashiki rice in water drawn from the Daisetsuzan mountains.

In freezing conditions, the biting cold weaves its magic, driving purity.

Then, as weeks turn into months, the unique flavour of our saké slowly unfolds. Finally, after filtering and storing at -4°C until bottling, patience is rewarded —an elegant, nuanced Junmai Daiginjo and the very highest grade of premium saké.
